The Greatest show that never was…

In the opening scene of the pilot episode of How To Make It In America, Ben (Brian Greenberg) is sitting in the living room of his New York apartment surrounded by hundreds
of skateboard decks he bought and designed with his partner in crime Cam (Victor
Rasuk). For him they serve as a constant reminder of another ill-fated business venture in his journey
to find himself and make his mark in this world. An all too familiar feeling for those of us seeking that
elusive “American Dream”. How many of us have boxes of left over flyers and t-shirts and any kind of
swag we were using to promote our own sole proprietorship?

Even in the first 30 seconds of this show
you could feel its authenticity and its representation of the ambitious grind of young entreprenuers
all over. Think Entourage with the same camraderie amongst friends but without all the bells and
whistles of Hollywood’s pretty women and sports cars. You can’t help but be inspired as the guys
persistently navigate their way through New York and its myriad of characters and social circles to
make their dream happen. Unfortunately it was short lived as HBO canceled the show after only its
second season. And while this post is a little late, we at IT are still in mourning for the greatest show
that never was.
